Starting from 2008 Latvian National Project management association announces application to Latvian National Project Excellence Award.

Objective of the Award
The "Latvian National Project Excellence Award“ supports professional project management in achieving high performance in projects and identifies projects as examples of excellent project management.

Use of Application
Applying for the award already focuses the energy of a project team on achieving excellent project management. If a project team clearly uses the model for „Project Excellence“ to reflect on its own achievements, it will automatically identify improvements and use these.

The project teams involved receive detailed written feedback from a team of qualified and experienced project managers in leading positions. They assess the applications on the basis of the criteria for the „Project Excellence“ model and give direction to the project teams about their strengths and improvement potential.

The projects are assesed according to the principles and criterias of "Project Excellence" model provided by International Project Management Association (IPMA).

The „Latvian Project Excellence Award“ offers a considerable gain of prestige. Prize winners are publicised and the logo of the „Latvian Project Excellence Award“ is available for company documents and publications. This enables the team to show they are one of the most successful project teams.

Prize winners are invited to pass on their experience of „Project Excellence“ at the National Project management conference. This is an outstanding opportunity to show their status as a leading project management team and this is duplicated at other events.

Great Achievements in Project Management
The model for "Project Excellence" helps a project team to reflect on its own strengths and improvement potential. It also helps to work out an assessment process when applying for The "Latvian National Project Excellence Award".

Project teams and organisations assess themselves when they use the model. They find out in which sectors their project work can be improved, and experience what promising project management in its entirety means. A unique form of benchmarking for project work (Project Benchmarking) results from the comparison of best project teams. This form of "the learning organisation" automatically leads to a better project result in the future.

However, project teams can only learn from solid facts and findings. Subjective opinions, as a rule, provide little sound knowledge when deciding about project quality. To helpfully assess any project a fundamental structure is required. This structure is offered by the model for "Project Excellence".
