Project Management is emerging as a true profession in its own right. PM certification is becoming increasingly popular in matured and emerging economies like USA, Japan, Europe, China and South Africa.

In the last 5 to 6 years the certification of project management professionals have grown exponentially. Every profession has its own certification and Project Management is no exception. The dismal record of on time and within cost project completion world wide, necessitated the need for identifying better project managers who can symbolise perfect blend of knowledge, skills, and experience. Thus greater emphasis is now laid on PM training, acquiring skills and certification.

International Project Management Association(IPMA), the federal association of 36 countries primarily from Europe has developed the 4 Level project management certification system. This is adopted by all the member associations of IPMA including Latvia.

Latvian National Project Management Association has signed an agreement with International Project Management Association (IPMA) about following to Four Level Certification system for project management personnel.

In 2002 IPMA has nominated first assessors of project management personnel certification in Latvia :

• Žaneta Ilmete (certification No. IPMA.FA.LV.01.doc) – Latvian LNPMA-Cert 1.assessor
  
• Sebastian Dworatschek (certification No. IPMA.FA.LV.03.doc) - Germany PM-ZERT 1.assessor
  
• Sergey Bushuyev (certification No. IPMA.FA.LV.02.doc)- Ukraine UPMA/Cert 1.assesor
